I’m an example that you CAN teach an old dog, new tricks


My background and expertise in marketing and advertising is strong in traditional media channels (TV, radio and print).  With a recent “break-in-the-action” on my career, I decided it was time to re-engineer my expertise to include everything Digital and Social.  So, for the past 6 months, I have been immersed in web-based media. I have read countless number of books and magazines on the subject, sat through many webinars and just recently, I completed my certification in Digital Marketing and Social Media Strategies from Harvard University combined with my recent certification in Google Analytics.  This educational download has not been easy from a guy who is past the halfway point in his career and has not been brought up embracing these new technologies. Forgetting my mobile phone for me is a slight inconvenience, not the end of life, as I know it.

So, I am proud of myself for taking on this challenge and enhancing my expertise in this emerging arena of digital/social media and learning the skills to listen, learn, talk and engage in this new world.  The ability to embrace these new channels of communication and stay current to this “groundswell”, the more value we will bring the agency, marketing department or businesses we represent.  The better we understand it all will determine the level of success.

So for those fighting it, give in and accept it.  To those that know a little bit about it, crank it up a few more notches.  And to those who are experts in this field, please mentor and teach those around you.  This is my first blog (see, I can do it) and it certainly won’t be my last.
